Landscapes: The Palouse

The Palouse is an agricultural and natural marvel. It is a series of sweeping and rolling hills where farmers bring up crops ranging from winter wheat to canola. It is also a place the literally dances in the sunlight. Wheat heads wave in the wind as sunlight drops in a mosaic pattern across the fields. A fallow field next to one recently planted and one in full bloom creates a artful quilt across the landscape.

Photographers from around the world come to capture a glimpse of these. All along the Palouse Scenic Byway and up through the deeply rutted farming roads, there is no lack of creative opportunity.

Recently, I got the chance to visit it for the first time. And, wow! I already can't wait to get back.

My timing wasn't great. I hit it shortly before the canola bloom. But, still. Look at that beauty.

Until next time!

(A special thanks to Richard Bitonti for giving me pointers on where to go and even lending me some equipment I didn't have. Made the trip even better.)
